Looks like a new year at SUNY Oneonta is off to a great start.

MOVing IN

Freshman and transfer students who attended August orientation arrived at SUNY Oneonta on Thursday, Aug. 27.

Parents, siblings and student volunteers helped freshman roomies Melissa Costa and Julie Rezny get settled in Wilber Hall.

THE BIG MOVE-IN DAY

Saturday was the big move-in day for freshman and transfer students who attended orientation earlier in the summer, as well as returning students. Residential & Community Life staff and move-in crew student volunteers kept things running smoothly, directing traffic, answering questions, and helping students and parents lug TVs, mini-fridges and plastic totes up many flights of stairs throughout the day.

Parting Advice

WELCOME, NEW RED DRAGONS!

On Sunday night, the Class of 2019 gathered on the hill behind the Fine Arts Center for a group picture.

PASS THROUGH THE PILLARS

The new students were a sea of red as they walked through the pillars of Old Main, the college’s first building, to the beat of the Drag’n Rolls Drumline. A crowd of faculty, staff and students clapped, cheered and high-fived the new students as they made their way down to the quad for a block party.

First Day of Classes

It was a gorgeous day for Monday’s Opening Picnic, where new students made friends and returning students caught up with old ones. The picnic had a ballpark theme, with fan food like Philly cheese steak, sausage & peppers, Cracker Jacks and snow cones.

RED's MAKEOVER IS COMPLETE!

Our favorite Red Dragon made a grand entrance to the Red Day celebration on the quad Friday. Despite a strong showing in SUNY’s Mascot Madness competition last spring—making it all the way to the final round against Baxter from Binghamton University—Red’s threads were getting worn out. Last year, alumni and students voted on several designs for a new look, and Red debuted the winning costume just in time for the festivities.

Red Day

Red Day 2015 marked the 126th anniversary of SUNY Oneonta’s founding. Decked out in red, students, faculty and staff celebrated with dragon cookies, giveaways, a dunking booth and other activities organized by the Student Association and Oneonta Future Alumni Network, and, of course, lots of selfies with Red!
