You probably already have what you need for one of these costumes right in your closet. And if you don't, a quick trip to the nearest thrift store should do the trick!
For this costume you’ll need:
– Oversized shirt (use scissors & paint to distress)
– Basic bottoms
– Chunky/work boots
– Makeup that darkens the eyes and accentuates the cheekbones
Popstar essentials:
– Minidress or skirt that's sequined or bedazzled, anything circa 2006
– Boots that match
– Additional accessories such as a microphone are recommended to complete the look
(dress from the Red Closet, SUNY Oneonta's on-campus thrift shop)
You’ll need:
– Long black dress or skirt
– Black top with wide/bell sleeves
– Black witch hat
(wig from Red Closet Thrift Shop)
For this Wednesday Addams look, you'll need:
– A black dress with a white collar (if you can’t find one, layer a white blouse under a black dress)
– Black tights
– Black shoes
(Dress from the Red Closet)
For this look:
– A pair of shorts or skirt with a retro pattern (look in secondhand shops or vintage stores)
– Windbreaker in a bright color (the more retro, the better)
– Basic shirt (a turtleneck is more in line with the 90s theme)
To saddle up you’ll need:
– A flannel shirt
– Boots (tall boots work just as well, if cowboy boots can’t be found)
– Jeans that pair well with your boots
– A vest (brown or denim, either will work)
– Cowboy hat (of course)
(Vest from the Red Closet)
Scarecrow essentials:
– Flannel, preferably one that's worn-in
– Overalls
– Boots
Dorothy Do’s:
– Ruby slippers (plain red heels or flats can also work)
– White socks
– Blue gingham top
(Flannel, gingham top and heels from the Red Closet)
– A jumpsuit with a bold print
– Headband or headscarf
– Boots (tall or short)
– For a more glam look, add a faux fur coat
(Jumpsuit from the Red Closet)
What you’ll need:
– Blue button-up, jeans, a belt, paintbrush
Make a paint pallet by cutting cardboard into the correct shape and decorating with colors of your choice!
(Wig and beard are optional but recommended, blouse from the Red Closet)
The Red Closet Thrift Shop (in the basement of Netzer) is run by an enthusiastic group of SUNY Oneonta thrifters who are passionate about finding homes for quality clothing and household items that would otherwise end up in the landfill.
They are "RAC" – the Revival of Apparel Club – and range in major from Fashion to Sustainability. If you're a student and would like to get involved, contact the RAC E-board at oneontaracsecretary@gmail.com
Red Closet Thrift Shop is open Wednesday through Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
