For this semester, I've had the opportunity to photograph many events. I've met so many wonderful people and had the chance to learn so much. Most importantly, I've been able to improve my photography skills throughout the semester. Not only in the sense of what I photograph, but the client side of photography; gaining people skills and building the confidence to ask clients what they want from the shoot. With this came better compositional skills and better use of the equipment I have on hand. It's truly been a pleasure to work with the people in the Communication and Marketing Department here on campus, and I can't thank them enough for how they've contributed to my experiences here at SUNY Oneonta.
VITA is an on-campus effort that consists of students doing taxes for free! It was great to see the process firsthand.
During this lab visit, we got to experience a chemical reaction in which light changed the color of the compound the students made!
During this event, I was able to see more of the opportunities the campus has to offer for people who are part of the College Assistance Migrant Program.
The Student Art Show is something I look forward to every year because of all the incredible works that are displayed for the campus to see. All the artistic mediums are interesting in their unique ways, and meeting the people who made them was an awesome experience.
This was a super interesting event I had the opportunity to photograph. For the inaugural School of Liberal Arts and Business Artist-in-Residence for visual art, our school welcomed artist Natan Diacon-Furtado to campus to pursue new work and ideas here and work directly with students to develop a site-specific project. Natan and interns used light projection to cast shapes and colors on old screen-printing canvases, making beautiful abstract art.
Samantha Schein's Solo show was amazing! I'm a big fan of the works she produced for this show, and her speech about capturing the life of the city was profoundly moving. It was nice seeing so many familiar faces at the show—it shows the art community at the school makes a commitment to supporting fellow artists.
This was one of the coolest events I had the opportunity to attend and photograph. Watching a once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse is something I'll never forget and something I'm proud of capturing.
Christine's show was beautiful! Her crocheted pieces covered the entirety of the Project Space Gallery, leaving no wall untouched. The colors were vibrant, and I even had the opportunity to wear one of her mask pieces for a piece in the show. This was my first event here on campus, and I'm glad I had the chance to cover such an awesome artist.
Commuter Students Day was an interesting event. There were plenty of tables showing off what our community here at SUNY Oneonta has to offer.
This was my second event during the internship, and it has to be one of the best experiences I've had here on campus. Getting to learn about Civil Rights from such an inspiring lady, Minnijean Brown-Trickey, was a true honor. I was able to walk away with more knowledge that I learned from this event.
International touring folksinger and songwriter Joe Jencks came to perform for an audio class here on campus. Not only was I able to learn a little on how audio equipment is set up, but I was able to listen to him perform some awesome music.
Club Expo is an event we have here on campus that gives students a chance to promote their clubs and find like-minded individuals and groups to join. Everyone there is so friendly and so passionate about what they're a part of, it's one of my favorite events to start off the semester.
OH-Factor is a competition to see who will open for the main act of OH-Fest. I enjoyed hearing all the musical talent we have here on campus.
Admitted Student Open House was a blast—getting to see all the faculty speak about what SUNY Oneonta has to offer was great. The most exciting part was seeing all the excited soon-to-be college students looking at what their future institution has to offer.
My favorite event of them all; OH-Fest!!! Getting the chance to stand steps away and even dance with these great artists was so exciting. Seeing the crowd come together because of the music was invigorating. I hope this type of event is something I can photograph more of in the future.
